Facing Death

Our “old folks” Bible Class is studying Hebrews. I am always surprised how I can read a verse several times, and then a new meaning hits me right square in the face. For example, this morning, we just happened to read Hebrews 2:9 …that He, by the grace of God, should taste death for all.  Now, I know I have read that verse at least several dozen times, but a new thought hit me.

In Matthew 27:46, Jesus asks …My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?  Because all the sins of all mankind had been piled on Jesus, God was forced to turn away.  If we die in our sins, God will not be there with  us at the point of death, for our sins will turn Him away.  However, because Jesus took my sins away by His own death, I can be assured that when I face the very moment of death, God will be there to  guide me gently over.  I will never have to fear facing death alone if I remain a faithful child of God.  What a great privilege to be escorted over the border by the very hand of God!

“Political Correctness” Is A Sin!

I just watched an interview on TV wherein a lesbian stated, “I am made in the image of God, so if you have a problem with me being a lesbian, you have a problem with God.” WHAT?  Is she insinuating that God is a lesbian, or that God approves her actions?  How far removed is this from the Bible?  Before we condemn anyone, we need to know what the Bible says, so let us proceed to examine it carefully.

What the interviewee was basing her claim on is called “political correctness,” which, I maintain, is a sin.  This goes back  over 2500 years to a time when the prophet Isaiah wrote, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil; who put darkness for light and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” (Isaiah5:20)  Do you think God has changed His mind, and now applauds and approves those who corrupt His Word?  May it never happen!

I am not going to print all the verses, but I urge you to open your Bible and read the following sections:  Romans 1:21-32; I Corinthians 6:9-10; Galatians 5:19.  Now pay close attention to what Paul says in each of those selections:

  • Romans 1:25  …they changed the truth of God into  lie…
  • Romans 1:26  …God gave them up to dishonorable affections…
  • Romans 1:32 … those practicing such things are worthy of death…
  • I Corinthians 6:9  …the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God…
  • Galatians 5:21  …of which  tell you, as I said before, they  who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Now we are told that more Americans approve of homosexuality than disapprove.  So what?  There was a commercial once that claimed 1,ooo,ooo people can’t be wrong!  I beg to differ.  It makes absolutely no difference how many approve of any sin. In fact, in both Matthew 7:13-14 and Luke 13:24, Jesus warns us that those missing the narrow way which leads to Heaven will be a number much greater than the number of those who find the narrow way and enter Heaven.   Did not Paul remind us, in Romans 3:4, Let it not be true!  But let God be true and every man a liar…  Three times in the Gospels, in Matthew 24:35,  Mark 13:31, and Luke 21:33, Jesus, Himself, is quoted as saying, “Heaven and Earth shall pass away, but My Word shall never pass away.”

Think about this:  If you claim to be a Christian, yet you deny that what the New Testament teaches is still the truth, you fall into condemnation, for you are denying that what Jesus taught is still the truth even though He said that His Word would not pass away.  In that case, you are denying Jesus, and He is quoted by both Matthew and Luke as saying that those who deny Him before men, He will deny before the Father in Heaven in the last day, or in the Day of Judgment.  (Matthew 10:33, Luke 12:9)  To be denied on Judgment Day means that you are not headed for Heaven, but are condemned to Hell for eternity.

So, the argument I am making is this:  If you take something God has called evil and has condemned, and you call that thing good just because it is popular and you fear what others might say or think, or even what the government might say or do to you because you stand fast in the Word of God, then you are denying Jesus, and can expect Him to deny you at Judgment.  Will you risk eternity to be “politically correct” or will you stand by the truth in God?
